Last Friday marked the closing date to submit petitions to run for the Archuleta School District (ASD) Board of Education.
Four candidate petitions have been verified and approved, and campaigns will soon take flight.
The candidates include Jason Peterson for District 2, Greg Schick, who is running for re-election in District 3, and two candidates for District 4, Lisl Keuning and Bill Hudson.
Joanne Irons, who currently serves District 2, and District 4’s Ken Fox are unable to run for re-election due to term limits.
By press time Wednesday, SUN staff heard from two of the four candidates, and will introduce the community to the remaining candidates as they are reached.
Keuning moved to Pagosa with her husband, current county coroner Dan Keuning, just after they were married 21 years ago.
Keuning works part time as the secretary at Pagosa Bible Church. She has served on the Pagosa Springs High School Athletic Booster Club for the past five years, served on the School Accountability and Accreditation Committee for the middle school, and volunteered many hours in the schools and in the community through various capacities.
In an email to The SUN, Keuning stated she is running for school board because she believes in helping kids succeed in any way possible and, by doing her part to make schools better, believes the community will grow stronger as a whole.
