Leroy was born on July 17, 1953, to Norma and Ruben Lucero in Tooele, Utah. He was the youngest of four children. His siblings are David Lucero, Becky Smith and Albert Lucero. 

They moved back to Pagosa Springs on June 1, 1960, when he was in the second grade. Leroy graduated from Pagosa Springs High School in 1971. Shortly after high school, Leroy started in the automotive industry working at the Chevrolet garage, downtown Pagosa Springs. Throughout his life, he continued in the automotive industry working at and co-owning several businesses such as DNK Auto, Napa and Parts Plus. 

Leroy loved his family. He enjoyed fishing, camping, riding his rZr, caring for his yard, spending time with his dogs, playing cornhole bag toss, and always being the best host for gatherings of family and friends at his home. 

Leroy is survived by David Lucero (older brother), Becky Smith (older sister), Albert Lucero (older brother), and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Ruben U. Lucero and Norma D. Lucero. 

The rosary will be held at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church Friday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. The funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. The church is located at 353 S. Pagosa Blvd. There will be a reception at the PLPOA Clubhouse, 230 Port Ave., following the graveside services.
