Incident involving school bus leads to arrest

On Sept. 26at approximately 2:25 p.m., Pagosa Springs Police Deparment officers responded to a report of a male subject attempting to forcibly enter an Archuleta County School District bus by breaking windows. The incident occurred on Aspen Village Drive near Walmart.

According to witness accounts, a male exited a pickup truck, confronted the stopped school bus by standing in front of it, slammed his hands on the hood and then shattered the glass in the door of the bus. The bus subsequently left the scene and was contacted by officers in the parking lot of Ponderosa Lumber. No injuries were reported.

Following a thorough investigation, the suspect was identified as Bryan Rosario-Ortiz, a 40-year-old resident of Pagosa Springs. On Sept. 30, a warrant for his arrest was issued on charges of menacing and criminal mischief.

On Oct. 2,  School Resource Officer Brandon Bishop located Rosario-Ortiz. He was taken into custody without incident.
