Archuleta County Sheriff's Office
At approximately 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, the Archuleta County Sheriffs Office received a call for a grass fire at approximately mile marker 121.5 on U.S. 160, on private property.
Deputies and firefighters responded to the scene and began initial attack operations immediately. The fire was contained at approximately four acres. It is believed to have been human caused and is under investigation.
We would like to thank our mutual aid partners with Pagosa Fire Protection District and Archuleta County Road and Bridge for their rapid response.
We are currently experiencing unprecedented conditions. Whilst it is cold, fuels are dry and there is significant potential for rapid fire growth.
The Archuleta County Sheriff’s Office also responded to a two-acre human-caused grass fire on Saturday, Jan. 11. The fire was suppressed without damage to nearby structures.
Please be careful out there, and please be responsible.
