The holiday spirit is about to get a little sweeter as the Pagosa Baking Company announces its second annual gingerbread house contest, themed “Home-A Safe Place to Land.” This community minded event, benefiting Rise Above Violence, aims to bring our town together while showcasing creativity and culinary skills.
Last year’s event was a great success.
Participants can enter in one of three categories: Family ($30 entry fee), Teen ($15 entry fee) and Adult ($30 entry fee). In addition to these categories, a special prize — the Home-A Safe Place to Land Rise Prize — will be awarded to the entry that raises the most funds for the cause.
With a limit of just 12 total entries, the competition promises to be both fierce and festive.
Rules for participants:
• Application process: Entries will be accepted starting Nov. 13. Participants can register online or pick up a form at Pagosa Baking Company.
• Creation specifications: Contestants will be given a 12-inch-by-12-inch board for their gingerbread houses. All materials must be edible, and the use of premade kits is prohibited.
• Judging criteria: Entries will be judged based on creativity and taste, with each creation required to feature an element that can be removed for tasting.
• Delivery: All entries must be delivered to Pagosa Baking Company on Dec. 3 or 4 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
• Voting: Community members can participate in online voting anytime, while in-person voting will take place at the bakery Dec. 4-8.
• Winners announcement: Winners will be revealed during the Holiday Open House on Dec. 14 from 3 to 5 p.m. You do not have to be present to win.
Last year’s contest brought joy to kids and adults alike with many first-time gingerbread artists participating.
