Free books available from Pagosa Peak Genealogy Society

With the renovation of the Ruby Sisson Library, the genealogy section has also been renovated.

A limited number of books not online are housed at the library in a special genealogy section (the red corner cabinet in the main room). Others will be available at no cost at the next Pagosa Peak Genealogy Society meeting on Oct. 3, at the Community United Methodist Church, at 10 a.m.

Come to the meeting. The program will be Aimee Cross on “Cleaning Up Your Genealogy.”

Some titles are broad, such as “Index to Mexican War Pension Applications” and “Abstracts of Orphan Court Proceedings 1778-1800.” Others are more specific such as “Harford County [Maryland] Wills 1774-1800” and “History of Our Church--175 Years of Lutheranism in the Leechburg [PA] Community” (church records), “A Guide to Genealogical Research” and more.

Additionally, there are several extremely old printings. Other titles are family specific.

The authors of both the broad and more narrow books have spent many hours compiling their information. It is always interesting to compliment your own genealogy efforts and secure your knowledge with perhaps primary source documents.

Remember that Ancestry.com and Family Search are excellent free resources. In the future, PPGS will be offering workshops at our newly renovated Ruby Sisson Library.
