TARA is an acronym for Tiffany, Allison, Rosa and Arboles. The historical society at Navajo Lake got the community together 30 years ago and had the first Independence Day parade, which is a tradition that continues to this day.
It is held the Saturday before the Fourth of July to avoid conflict with other large events in the surrounding area.
Some of the original founding families and grandchildren are involved with the festivities as it is such a beloved tradition.
The parade is at 10 a.m. starting at the Piedra Peak General Store and goes down Milton Lane to the TARA Historical Society and Community Center.
This year, in celebration of 30 years, Braydon Zink is kicking it up a notch playing from noon to 2 p.m. at the TARA Center pavilion where people always gather and hang out after the parade for community-centered fun.
