This year’s Archuleta County Fair resulted in a big splash for the Archuleta County commissioners.
Commissioners Veronica Medina, Warren Brown and John Ranson all volunteered for our dunk tank as “dunkees.” Ranson had the least amount of time on the tank, but garnered the most dunks.
Our first responders assisted with the action by competing for bragging rights by accumulating the largest number of commissioner dunks.
The contest ended in a tie of seven dunks each, with six volleys of balls thrown at the commissioners.
However, Capt. Anthony Ferguson from the Pagosa Fire Protection District (PFPD) managed to throw a ball with such force that it tripped the release handle on the tank, sending a commissioner to the depths even though the target was missed.
Ferguson was the MVP of the team, and it was decided that the PFPD team won the event and have the 2025 Dunk Tank Bragging Rights of the first responders. Congratulations to Ferguson for leading his team to victory.
Other contestants in the dunk tank competition included Anaya Engleking, LaJara McClure and Zaen Mitchell, who all won a $20 gift certificate as winners of the dunk tank drawing.
The Wolf Creek Gun and Bow Association would like to thank all of the participants in the dunk rank competition and other games. We would also like to thank the Rotary Club for allowing us to borrow its dunk tank for this event and allowing us to raise funds for our archery range(s).
The Wolf Creek Gun and Bow Association is still looking for land to build a community firearms range for all shooting disciplines. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and donations are tax-deductible. Anyone interested in donating or leasing land for a firearms range can contact us at contact@wolfcreekgunandbow.org.
