End of Life Education will be hearing from the emergency response team on Sept. 24, and about the latest modern natural funeral options in person on Oct. 15.
We began our autumn 2026 series of classes on Thursday, Sept. 17, and will also be meeting on Thursdays, Sept. 24, Oct. 15 and Oct. 29, Nov. 12 and Dec. 10. We will also meet on Oct. 20, which is a Tuesday.
I realize that this is no one’s favorite topic, but I cannot count the times that people have said to me how important and helpful these sessions have been. For people who have led a planned-for and orderly life, this can be even more difficult, and there is much that can help.
The meetings will begin at 1 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church, 434 Lewis St, in the fellowship hall. Use the side door off the parking lot. (The front doors are often locked if there are no other church activities.)
On Sept. 24, we are planning on hearing from an emergency response team that shows up with the ambulance when 911 is called. It is an excellent presentation.
Here again is a crisis that is much better handled when people are prepared. This is when the do-not-resuscitate paper needs to be on the refrigerator. Huge decisions are made at this time, and being prepared can mean life or death.
You will also learn how important the vote on Nov. 3 is to improve our emergency services without increasing the tax cost.
On Oct. 15, Keris Meskimen will be here again in person with a detailed presentation on the many new more-natural options for burial and cremation, such as water cremation and terramation, which is more quickly turning a body into soil, and other new options.
Our grandchildren will be using these new methods, but for now they are only available closer to Denver. But, it is more affordable to transport a body. Take advantage of this opportunity to learn the latest burial techniques.
There is so much to learn. In the future we are also planning on more time for large- and small-group discussions so you can explore your thoughts and feelings.
When you come you can get the booklet for end-of-life decisions that is given to you when you enter a hospital in Colorado. Now is a better time to get it. We are also hoping to have our newest, most important form for recording personal information needed after death in a hard copy, or request an email copy.
