End of Life Education group announces upcoming meetings

End of Life Education is ready to begin a new series of programs that should be very exciting and educational.

The first program will be presented on March 19 beginning at 1 p.m. at the Community United Methodist Church at 434 Lewis St. with the large convenient parking lot and side door into the meeting room.

Hopefully the 2026 flu season will have passed. We now have a trifecta of respiratory illnesses including the flu, COVID and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, to deal with. We can talk about this situation as one of our topics to consider.

In 2024, End of Life Education had a guest speaker, Connie Cook, an emergency medical technician who gave a most memorable talk about emergency medical response. We wanted to have her back. Pagosa Springs Medical Center EMS recently added a new staff member focusing almost solely on education. He will be speaking to us at two of our meetings, on March 19 and April 16.

His comments will be mostly for senior citizens, and he will also be including material for the general public and how the organization wants to expand its education program.

Everyone is invited to attend. Knowledge about an emergency medical program can only be beneficial to everyone. I enjoy being part of something new that is just being developed.

Another new speaker at End of Life Education, on April 3, will be Brad Hunt, our Archuleta County coroner. Laws are changing and the coroner must be more involved in every death case.

These may be three emotionally difficult programs. I hope it will not be too much for anyone to handle. I feel that with caring and sensitive people working together, we can handle almost anything. If you come, please step up and be prepared for a challenge.

We have several medical doctors and several counselors who have been part of the group in the past, plus other amazingly caring people. People need to monitor themselves, communicate openly and be 100 percent honest. I don’t think anyone told you that life is easy and the end may be most challenging.

I hope to see you there for a great learning experience.
