David Smith passed away unexpectedly on Jan. 13, 2024, in the home that he shared with his family.

David was a devoted husband and father who worked hard to provide for his family. He met his wife, Desire, at a young age while living in Pagosa Springs, Colo., and has spent the last 20 years as her partner in crime. Together they have worked hard to build a great life that included their two children: Zoe (17) and Eli (16) along with their rescue cat, Clark. They decided over a decade ago to leave Pagosa and sell the house that they had built together so that they could continue to pursue their dreams in the Denver area. One dream of David’s that was able to come to fruition was to share the passion of riding motorcycles with his wife, which was accomplished with the recent purchase of matching Indian motorcycles. David’s biggest regret was not getting, buying them sooner.

Another pivotal aspect of David’s life was the time he spent at Liberty oilfield. He joined the company and the Freedom crew in 2015. It was on this crew that he worked with his second family, spending weeks out of town away and working in extreme conditions. His “brothers” are what kept him going. He is described by his crew as someone who was always willing to jump in and help, not just while away on hitch, but also here at home. It was also with Freedom crew that he earned his nickname Sniper, which was in reference to his quick wit and sharp humor over the radio.

David is going to be missed severely by all that have to keep moving forward without his smile and hugs in their lives.

His family has chosen not to hold a memorial at this time, but do plan to take David home to La Crosse, Wis., this summer to be released at Grand Dad’s Bluff per his wishes.
