Get ready for a night of sparkle, dancing, and meaningful impact at the third annual Second Chance Prom, hosted by the Pagosa Community Initiative (PCI) on Saturday, May 17, from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Ross Aragon Community Center.
This year’s fabulous theme, Denim and Diamonds, invites guests to mix rugged with refined — whether you show up in rhinestone-studded jeans, cowboy boots or your flashiest sequins, you’re dressed for fun.
This event has quickly become a local favorite, not only for its lively energy and nostalgic charm, but also for the real change it helps create in our community. The Second Chance Prom is more than just a fun night out — it’s a fundraiser that directly supports PCI’s vital programs serving youth and families in Archuleta County.
New theme, same mission
In past years, Second Chance Prom has leaned into decade themes — the first year was all about the ‘90s, and last year we took it back to the ‘80s. This year, we’re switching things up and having some fun branching out from the decades with a theme that lets everyone shine in their own way. Denim and Diamonds brings together the best of casual cool and all-out glam, so come as you are or dress to dazzle.
Why it matters
PCI is a local nonprofit dedicated to creating accessible programs that support at-risk and underserved youth and families. Through after-school programs, the Get Wild Child summer camp and a Family Resource Center, PCI builds safe, enriching spaces that promote academic success, social-emotional growth, wellness and community connection.
In a rural area where many families face economic and social challenges, PCI’s work helps remove barriers and provide tools for lasting change.
Proceeds from the Second Chance Prom help sustain these programs, support scholarships, and strengthen the organization’s ability to reach those who need it most.
“Every dollar raised helps a local child or family access resources that empower them,” states the PCI team. “This event is all about joy — joy in dancing, in giving, and in being part of something bigger than ourselves.”
