On Thursday evening, Oct. 24, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., Creation Care will present a program on “Greening Our Economy,” presented by Dave and Nicky Schneider.
Each monthly Creation Care meeting features a free educational program and a healthy meal provided by the members.
If you plan to attend, please email sarah.riehm@gmail.com so we have enough food. All meetings are held in the fellowship hall at the Community United Methodist Church, 434 Lewis St. Enter through the side door by the parking lot.
Presenters Dave and Nicky Schneider recently relocated here from Wisconsin.
“We have a treasure trove of expert scientists and environmentalists residing right here in Pagosa,” said co-founder Sarah Riehm, “which allows us to continue our thought-provoking and insightful programs free to the public. Dave and Nicky are fun, high- energy, and informative presenters who will provide a spirited evening for all.”
They are also proud parents of Pirate football varsity player Emile Schneider.
“Let’s work together to build the circular economy,” said Dave Schneider. “Today’s profits-over-all paradigm threatens a peaceful and prosperous tomorrow; but through partnership with people and planet, all of us today can make better choices to ensure that the next generations have access to the same healthy and vibrant future we enjoy, forever.
“Thursday’s discussion will take a peek at ‘doughnut’ economics, planetary thresholds, global wealth distribution, and options for addressing past inaction. As we move ahead, business-being-in-business-just-for-business will no longer be fashionable. Join us for a lively discussion on Greening Our Economy.”
Dave Schneider worked for the Worldwatch Institute in Washington, D.C., as an intern with the United Nations Environment Programme, as well as the Rocky Mountain Institute in Colorado. He has a M.Sc. in sustainable development from the University of Wisconsin with a focus on green economics and ongoing international climate negotiations through the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The UNFCCC is an international treaty among countries to combat “dangerous human interference with the climate system.”
We hope to see you there. If you have any questions, send an email to sarah.riehm@gmail.com.
