With the holiday season fast approaching, Archuleta County’s unemployment situation is still doing well on the annual level, but has had a small hiccup in the past month.
According to a report issued on Nov. 20 by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, the unemployment rate in Archuleta County increased by two-tenths of a percentage point from last month. In September, the unemployment rate was 2.9 percent, with the rate increasing to 3.1 percent in October.
In October, the overall labor force was 6,253, with 6,058 people being employed and 195 claiming unemployment.
In September, the overall labor force was 6,194, with 6,017 people being employed and 177 claiming unemployment.
Over the year, Archuleta County’s unemployment rate fell nearly an entire percentage point, decreasing from 4.0 percent in 2014 to 3.1 percent in 2015.
In October 2014, the overall labor force was 5,870, with 5,633 having jobs and 237 claiming unemployment.
Looking at this October’s employment situation for the rest of the state, Huerfano County had the highest unemployment rate for the month with 6.1 percent, while Dolores County had the lowest rate at 1.6 percent.
According to the survey of households, the unemployment rate for the state decreased two-tenths of a percentage point in October to 3.8 percent, the lowest rate since August 2007.
