Archuleta County is one of 18 Colorado counties that recently received grants from the Secretary of State Office’s Electronic Recording Technology Board (ERTB).

According to a July 22 press release, the ERTB awarded more than $1.6 million in grants in the first two quarters of 2025 to 18 counties.

Archuleta County received $170,789, it notes.

Archuleta County Clerk and Recorder Kristy Archuleta explains via emailed that $159,000 of the grant is for vendor fees for software and storage for the years of 2023 to 2025, with another $11,000 going for a new firewall for the county.

“As long as it benefits the recording side of everything, it can be countywide,” she wrote.

“My office works year-round to ensure counties in every corner of Colorado have the resources they need. I’m proud of our work to provide these grants, which allow counties to better serve their constituents and make public documents more accessible to anyone who wants them,” said Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold.

The ERTB was created in 2016 with the mission of developing, maintaining, improving, replacing or preserving land records systems in our state, the press release explains.

The board’s statutory authority was renewed in 2021 with new legislation that allows the board to consider security improvements for counties’ land recording systems, it notes.

“The grants help counties — especially in rural Colorado — invest in technological upgrades. Since its creation, the board has awarded more than $20 million dollars to ensure county clerks are able to improve and maintain property records and other important documents,” the press release states.
