During its regular meeting held on Tuesday, March 3, the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) unanimously approved Resolution 2026-23, authorizing the submission of an application for the 2025 state Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for the Forest Health Timber Products (FHTP) three-phase power project for an existing sawmill and forest products business in Cloman Park.

According to the meeting’s agenda, the CDBG program is a federally funded program administered by the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA).

“The program supports rural Colorado counties and municipalities by funding projects that improve community infrastructure and economic conditions for low- and moderate-income residents,” the agenda states.

The agenda also notes that the grant application being considered will request $350,000 of CDBG funds for FHTP.

During the meeting, County Manager Longinos Gonzales explained that the matter came up as a request at a previous BoCC work session, and the county has been working to get infrastructure improvements in the Cloman Park area.

“This benefits everybody,” Gonzalez said, explaining that three-phase power lines would be extended closer to where the county needs them while reducing the overall cost to the county.

Commissioner Veronica Medina commented that this is a “great opportunity” for the county with a public-private partnership.

“I think that’s the only way we’re going to get things done in this county is through those private and public partnerships, so thank you,” Medina said.
