The Conejos County Sheriff’s Office confirms that the two hunters reported missing on Sept. 13, Andrew Porter, of Asheville, N.C., and Ian Stasko, of Salt Lake City, Utah, have been located and are deceased.
Following extensive search efforts, their bodies were recovered approximately 2 miles from the Los Pinos Trailhead.
Tragically, preliminary autopsy reports indicate the cause of death of both men was consistent with a lightning strike.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families and friends of Andrew Porter and Ian Stasko during this difficult time” said Sheriff Garth Crowther. “We are grateful for the dedication of the more than 170 individuals who assisted in the search, including ground volunteers, Colorado Search and Rescue Association, New Mexico State Police Search and Rescue, Rainbow Trout Ranch horseback riders, air support, medical and private, canine teams, and the numerous county search and rescue teams. Their tireless efforts reflect the strength and compassion of this community. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families as they grieve this tragic loss.”
No further information will be released at this time.
