Before Christmas Eve arrives, the Community United Methodist Church will also offer a Blue Christmas Service on Sunday, Dec. 21, a quiet, reflective service created for anyone experiencing grief, loss, loneliness or darkness during this season.
This service acknowledges that Christmas can be difficult for many and offers space for honesty, prayer and hope.
On Christmas Eve at 6 p.m., the Community United Methodist Church, 434 Lewis St., will host a candlelight service celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, a service rooted in scripture, music and the enduring message of hope, love and community.
The Christmas Eve service will feature readings from the Bible, beloved Christmas hymns, a children’s lesson, and special music offered by the church choir and bell choir. The evening will conclude with the traditional candle lighting, a powerful symbol of Christ’s light shining in the darkness and a reminder of the hope we are called to carry into the world.
At the heart of both services is a message that reflects the true teachings of Christ: All means all. The Community United Methodist Church is an inclusive and affirming church, where every person is welcomed, valued and loved. Regardless of background, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, family structure, or life experience, all belong here.
Jesus’ ministry was centered on love of neighbor, care for the poor, welcome of the outsider and compassion for those pushed to the margins. The Community United Methodist Church strives to live into those teachings not only at Christmas, but every day, through acts of service, generosity, justice and radical hospitality. Feeding the hungry, loving boldly and creating a community where everyone has a place at the table are central to the church’s mission.
Christmas is a reminder that God’s love entered the world not with power or exclusion, but with humility, grace and open arms. These services offer meaningful opportunities for families, individuals, longtime members, and first-time visitors alike to experience that love in a welcoming and supportive setting.
The community is warmly invited to attend. Whether you come seeking comfort, joy or simply a place to belong, the Community United Methodist Church offers a church home where all are embraced, just as Christ embraces us.
