Community United Methodist Church to hold prayer vigil

Posted

In a time marked by unrest, division, gun violence and growing hatred of others, the Community United Methodist Church invites the community to come together for a prayer vigil for peace and hope.

The vigil will be held on Sunday, Jan. 18, at 4 p.m. at Community United Methodist Church, located at 434 Lewis St.

This gathering is open to all — people of faith, people with questions, and people simply longing for a moment of quiet and connection.

Together, we will pray for healing in our world and for the courage to live into the teachings of Jesus, especially the call found in Matthew 25 to feed the hungry, heal the sick and welcome the stranger.

This vigil is also a faithful act of speaking out against gun violence and the hatred that divides neighbors from one another. We gather to name our grief, our fear and our longing for a different way — a way shaped by love, justice and compassion.

At its heart, this vigil is about remembering who we are called to be: neighbors who care for one another, communities that choose compassion over fear and people who believe that love is stronger than division.

The service will include simple prayers, moments of silence, music and space to reflect. No prior church experience is needed — just a willingness to pause and hold hope together.

In a world that often feels loud and fractured, this vigil will offer a different way: a way of listening, praying and standing for peace.

All are welcome.
