Community United Methodist Church to explore family, belonging and listening for Father’s Day

The Community United Methodist Church will continue its summer sermon series, “Others — A Life Beyond Ourselves,” with a Father’s Day message on Sunday, June 21, at services at 8:15 and 11 a.m. at 434 Lewis St.

This week’s sermon — “Who Is My Family?” — draws on Mark 3:31-35, where Jesus expands the definition of family beyond bloodlines to something broader and more inclusive.

The Rev. Ken Daniell will explore what it means to belong to one another across generations and across the complicated terrain of real family life.

The sermon speaks honestly into the generational tensions many families carry, the misunderstandings between parents and adult children, the hurt that comes when parenting looks different from one generation to the next, and the simple but difficult practice of listening rather than defending.

Father’s Day is not always a simple celebration. For some, it carries grief, distance, or complicated history. This Sunday’s message holds all of that with honesty and care while pointing toward the possibility of repair, chosen family and the kind of belonging that does not require perfect history to be real.

The Community United Methodist Church is a progressive, inclusive, and affirming congregation committed to serving the Pagosa Springs community. All are welcome, regardless of background, belief or history with the church.
