The Community United Methodist Church will begin a new sermon series this Sunday, Sept. 13, titled “Peace: Holding It Together,” the sixth of seven in their yearlong “Seven Longings” series.
Services are at 8:15 and 11 a.m. at 434 Lewis St.
The five-week series will run Sept. 13 through Oct. 11 and will explore the human longing for peace — not the absence of conflict, but the kind of deep, grounded peace that holds when life feels fragmented and the world feels loud.
“We are living in an anxious time,” said Pastor Ken Daniell. “The news is heavy, the pace is relentless and most of us are carrying more than we say out loud. This series is an honest conversation about what it looks like to find peace that is real, not denial, not avoidance, but something rooted deeply enough to hold us.”
The series will open Sept. 13 with “Peace Be With You” from John 20, the moment Jesus appears to his disciples in a locked room and speaks peace into the middle of their fear.
Subsequent Sundays will explore Psalm 23’s still waters, the wisdom of James on listening and speaking, and the global table of World Communion Sunday on Oct. 4.
The series will run through Oct. 11 before a special Laity Sunday on Oct. 18, when lay leadership will lead both services.
The Community United Methodist Church is a welcoming, affirming and inclusive space. All are welcome, regardless of background, belief or history with church.
