Community invited to gather for 25th anniversary 9/11 Remembrance and Day of Service

Posted

Friday, Sept. 11, will mark the 25th solemn anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. In observance of Patriot Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance, local community organizations are coming together to host a commemorative ceremony and community lunch honoring the fallen, our nation’s heroes, and all local first responders who serve Archuleta County.

The remembrance event is organized through a joint community collaboration featuring:

• Vets 4 Vets of Archuleta County.

• American Legion Post 108.

• Sarah Platt Decker Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.

• Pagosa Fire Protection District.

The ceremony will pay solemn tribute to the nearly 3,000 lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001, while recognizing the enduring dedication of first responders throughout the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County — including our local firefighters, town police officers, county sheriff’s deputies, emergency medical services and dispatch personnel.

Following the formal ceremony and moment of silence, organizers invite all attendees, first responders and community members to join together for a complimentary community appreciation lunch.

The gathering provides an opportunity for neighbors to connect, reflect on the spirit of unity that defines Patriot Day, and celebrate the daily sacrifices made by those who protect our mountain community.

It will take place at Veterans Memorial Park beginning at 11 a.m. sharp.

The San Juan Squadron will start our ceremony with a missing man formation.

The community lunch will take place immediately following the ceremony.

The event will be free and open to all members of the public.

Residents are also encouraged to participate in the National Day of Service by performing acts of kindness, supporting first responders, collaboration, teamwork and flying flags at half staff from sunrise to sunset.
