Are you looking for a way to support our community this summer? One way you can help this weekend is to come by the food drive at City Market on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
It’s an easy action to take that has a lasting impact in our community.
According to the Healthy Archuleta 2024 Community Survey, 35 percent of residents in Archuleta County were worried that they might not always be able to afford enough food to feed themselves and their families in the next year.
Participating in the food drive helps to provide some of these needed food items to our neighbors. Donated items are collected by Healthy Archuleta and shared with all of the food pantries in Archuleta County through the Healthy Archuleta Food Distribution Center.
Another way to participate in helping our neighbors with food availability is to grow food. If you are a backyard gardener, or perhaps own a greenhouse, and are growing fruit, vegetables and herbs, please consider growing a little extra to donate. Fresh, local produce is always welcomed and appreciated by the pantries. Please visit our website at https://www.foodcoalition4archuleta.org/community-produce-donations.html for more information about donating fresh produce to the Food Distribution Center.
On Saturday, Aug. 9, please stop by the Healthy Archuleta table outside City Market, pick up a shopping list and fill a bag to support our neighbors accessing food through the food pantries this summer.
If you are unable to attend the food drive, Healthy Archuleta has a donation bin located inside the UPS store in the City Market plaza. Nonperishable, unexpired items can be donated during the UPS Store’s open hours.
