The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is giving residents more time to keep their favorite license photo. Effective immediately, eligible Coloradans can renew a driver’s license or ID card online for up to 11 years from the date the last in-office photo was taken.
Because an individual's most recent in-office photo is now kept on file longer, most eligible drivers can successfully complete two consecutive online renewals. This allows residents to easily update credentials for over a decade before a physical trip to a DMV office is mandatory for a new photo.
"Our priority is to make accessing DMV services as convenient as possible," said Electra Bustle, senior director of the Colorado DMV. "By extending this window, we are helping more Coloradans skip the trip to an office while maintaining the security and federal REAL ID compliance of our credentialing system."
Coloradans are encouraged to verify eligibility and renew credentials from the comfort of home — or anywhere with an internet connection — by visiting mydmv.colorado.gov. For residents who require in-office services, appointments can be scheduled online by visiting dmv.colorado.gov/
