Thank you all for your support in voting and buying the decorated Christmas tree by the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
The proceeds from voting, as well as buying the tree at the auction in person Friday evening, will go to support our Good Citizens Award.
This is given to a senior at each of the seven high schools in Archuleta and La Plata counties.
The senior is selected by the school staff because he or she has demonstrated the core values of being a good citizen such as dependability with attendance, helping others, being visible with leadership, service to others in school and the community, or patriotism by helping vets or enlisted military people. This is not an exhaustive list.
Students are eligible regardless of their grades or financial situation. They just need to excel in being a good person. Then they are eligible for state and national scholarships.
The next DAR Sarah Platt Decker chapter meeting will be Jan. 17, 2026, at the Community United Methodist Church on Lewis Street at 10:30 a.m. The topic will be the Constitution.
