Breakfast with Balloons to benefit Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership

Posted

Saturday morning, the sky above town will be awash with balloons as part of Colorfest weekend.

It’s quite a spectacle for visitors, and our local community turns out in force every year, never seeming to tire of the color and excitement. Right in the middle of all that another event is taking place, Breakfast with Balloons at the Geothermal Greenhouse Partnership (GGP) site in Centennial Park.

This is the GGP’s annual fundraiser and offers a front row seat for the balloon ascension and a delicious breakfast and live music.

A few details about the breakfast will serve to stimulate anyone’s appetite: The main course will be farmer’s egg bites with potato crust, aged cheddar and grow dome veggies served with crispy bacon and breakfast sausage, with a vegetarian version also available. It will be followed by a late summer parfait cup offering a “Colorfest” of seasonal fruit, coconut-chia pudding, toasted coconut and ganola. There will also be mini pumpkin muffins and/or griddle blueberry pancakes with maple syrup. Of course, there will also be hot coffee and/or a sparkly orange mimosa.

That by itself is worth the early rising, but there is more: The Happy Campers will serenade with an appropriate early morning selection.

Now, about tickets to our event: It’s easy, just go to pagosagreen.org and purchase. The price is $50 and that will get you entrance to the event from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Your ticket will, in turn, work toward paying for the extensive maintenance effort of last year that brought two of our three domes back to A-1 condition, ready to welcome students in to learn about growing, locals in to harvest fresh produce and visitors in to ask questions about how we are able to grow tomatoes in the dead of winter.

The domes serve Pagosa Springs in many ways. They have an iconic presence on the river, they attract visitors to our community, they add to our town’s identity as a future-oriented supporter of sustainability, they are a community center for both youth and adults, and the entire effort is volunteer driven.

It bears repeating: The GGP invites the community to get involved in any one of several ways. Individuals who are hands-on will find opportunity to garden and grow food. Others more interested in teaching can do just that, working with the youngsters who come to the domes to learn. Those interested in directing the operation will find the board and its committees interesting. Simply express your interest via the email address or phone number listed below. There is fun and satisfaction to be hand.
