Blessing of the Animals set for Sunday

St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church invites the community to a Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, Sept. 28.

Your pets will be blessed at 11:30 a.m. outside the church at 225 S. Pagosa Blvd. All are welcome.

The custom of blessing animals is conducted in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi, and his love for all creatures great and small.

“Our companion animals are important parts of our lives and families. They bring us joy and are a special blessing to us,” said the Rev. Wren Blessing, rector of St. Patrick’s.

The service will feature short readings and an individual blessing by name for each animal in attendance. Commemorative certificates will be handed out, as well.

The Episcopal Church has long taken a pro-animal stance, reminding members that animals are gifts from God, and that people are responsible for being good stewards of the earth and all its inhabitants.
