Aspen House is pleased to announce the appointment of four outstanding new members to the board of directors of A Safe Place in Pagosa Inc. (ASPiP), the nonprofit organization behind Aspen House, Aspen Services and PS FroYo.

These new board members are committed to advancing services for adults with developmental disabilities and helping make the vision of Aspen House a reality.

We warmly welcome Kelly Vergo, Ali Brau, Jana Schick and Amythest Barker to the board. Each brings a unique set of skills, experiences and a shared passion for serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

Vergo and Brau will serve together in the role of board secretary, helping maintain organizational documentation and meeting records. The new additions will join the current board members, Michael Kloep (president), Keena Carstensen (vice president), Bryan Looper (treasurer) and Nicole Smith (director).

“We are excited to welcome our new board members and look forward to the passion and expertise they bring to our mission,” said Pattie Copenhaver, executive director of Aspen House. “Their support will help guide us as we continue to expand opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities in Archuleta County and begin the process of raising capital funding that will allow us to build Aspen House.”

Aspen Services, the program arm of ASPiP, is dedicated to cultivating an environment of growth and success for adults with I/DD. Services include prevocational training, supported employment and job coaching, mentorship, community engagement, transportation, day habilitation and respite care. As the leading service provider in Archuleta County, Aspen Services is proud to support both individuals and their families on their journey toward greater independence and fulfillment.

As we welcome these new leaders, we also extend our heartfelt thanks to the founding board members, Patty Brown and Carolyn Paschal, and previous directors whose dedication laid the foundation for our continued growth. Their vision and leadership have helped build a stronger, safer and more inclusive community.
