Archuleta County Sheriff Office rescinds Stage 1 fire restrictions

Posted

Effective immediately on Tuesday, Sept. 15, the Archuleta County Sheriff's Office has officially rescinded Stage 1 fire restrictions for all unincorporated areas within Archuleta County.

As a result, open burning restrictions previously implemented under Archuleta County Ordinance No. 18-2017 are lifted.

Ongoing safety and responsibilities

While fire restrictions have been lifted, officials remind the public that wildfire danger can change rapidly in Southwest Colorado. Residents and visitors are urged to prioritize fire safety in everything you do:

  1. Check the weather: Never burn during windy conditions or when a red flag warning is issued by the National Weather Service.
  2. Never leave fires unattended: Always ensure campfires and burn piles are completely extinguished and cold to the touch before leaving the area.
  3. Obtain required permits: Burn permits can be obtained through the Pagosa Fire Protection District and Los Pinos Fire Protection District.
