The Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado and its Archuleta Committee established the Archuleta County Fund to provide high-impact grants to nonprofits serving the Pagosa Springs area. This quasi-endowed fund grants at least $10,500 to one Archuleta County nonprofit each year.

This year’s recipient was the Humane Society of Pagosa Springs, who was recognized at the Labor Day Kickoff Concert at the Pagosa Springs Golf Club. The concert and silent auction helped raise nearly $4,000 to contribute to the Archuleta County Fund.

James Baxter and Christina Knoell of the Humane Society took a moment to share about their mission and receive their grant check in front of a supportive crowd of concert attendees.

“Our ultimate goal is to grow the fund so we can increase the grant amount to create an even bigger impact for local nonprofits,” said the Community Foundation’s executive director, Briggen Wrinkle. “If you are looking for a way to assist local nonprofits, donating to the Archuleta County Fund ensures your money stays local and supports their hard work.”

Past recipients of the Archuleta County Fund grant include Seeds of Learning, Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County and the Pagosa Nordic Club. This is an unsolicited grant, and selections are made by a committee comprised of community stakeholders.

Donations to the Archuleta County Fund can be made online through the Community Foundation’s website, www.swcommunityfoundation.org.

The Community Foundation supports the work of nonprofits across southwest Colorado through grants, professional development opportunities and sharing of resources. It connects donors to the causes they care about and manages more than 80 charitable funds.
