New Enterprise Zone boundaries go into effect Jan. 1, 2026, and all of Archuleta County is included.
Colorado’s Economic Development Commission approved the new boundary designations — which were last updated in 2016 — in October for the next 10 years.
An Enterprise Zone area is a geographic area that meets distress criteria defined in Colorado statute, which includes unemployment rates, per capital income and population growth rates as compared to the state average.
Designated Enterprise Zones are meant to encourage investment and assist businesses in these distressed areas, which means any business located in the new (or any existing) designated Enterprise Zone areas are eligible for a variety of state tax credits.
Tax credits include equipment, job creation, job training, rehabilitation of vacant buildings and several other credits.
All information can be accessed at https://oedit.colorado.gov/enterprise zone-program or by searching for Colorado Enterprise Zones.
Archuleta was found to be eligible at the county level, which is evaluated first. If the county had not been eligible as a whole, individual census tracts and block groups would have been looked at.
In the last redesignation 20 years ago, two Archuleta census tracts were not eligible. They included the east side of U.S. 160 primarily.
