The Pagosa Springs Instrumental Music Society’s (PSIMS’s) community band, the high school jazz band and the middle school band class invite the public to a special Band-O-Rama concert at 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium.
Admission is free.
It is vital to the continuation of high-caliber musical performances in Pagosa Springs to encourage musicians of all ages to become comfortable playing in public for our concerts. The PSIMS provides the opportunity for them to learn from experienced musicians in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Some students who have participated in Band-O-Rama have continued to embrace music and gone on to pursue college degrees in music as teachers and performers, right here in Pagosa Springs even. Our conductors are all former students in Pagosa Springs: Leo Baughman, high school music and choir director; Malinda Burnett, middle school music teacher; and Anika Borders, elementary school music teacher. They are showing off our talent at this year’s Band-O-Rama concert. You will be impressed.
Another change this year is that Pagosa’s excellent music teachers and PSIMS Community Band members will offer a master class for the students the afternoon before the concert, giving tips and suggestions for playing their instrument and working on our joint musical offering.
Please come out on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. to the high school auditorium and support Pagosa’s amazing musicians and their families. While admission is free, donations support the mission of the PSIMS.
The PSIMS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization which provides free concerts (at least) four times a year: This Band-O-Rama concert, the Fourth of July patriotic concert in town, Heralds of Christmas for the winter holidays (on Dec. 21 this year at the Pagosa Bible Church at 3 p.m.) and a spring concert of more advanced music to highlight the talented Pagosa Springs Community Band.
The PSIMS contributes financial support to the music community with music lessons, band music and instruments, instrument repairs, and scholarships to music students. We also play for the Curtains Up Pagosa musicals and the high school musicals.
