A special workshop on Building Brain-Healthy Habits will be led by retired geriatrician Dr. Jeff Wallace on June 15 at the Durango Public Library. The program is one of a series of in-person and online programs conducted by the Alzheimer’s Association in southwest Colorado in June.
Two live webinars also are scheduled during June, including:
• “Communicating Effectively,” 5 p.m., June 2.
• “Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors,” 5 p.m., June 9.
The Building Brain-Healthy Habits program will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 15, at the library, 1900 E. 3rd Ave.
Wallace will lead the program along with Bobbie D’Addario, senior program manager for the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado. A light lunch will be provided.
Ongoing support groups
The Durango/Pagosa Springs area also is host to several ongoing support groups for family care partners, as well as people living in the early stages of Alzheimer’s disease.
• Support Group — For Care Partners: 10:30 a.m. to noon on the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of the month at La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave., Durango.
• Support Group — For People with Early Memory Loss: 10:30 a.m. to noon on the second Wednesday of the month at La Plata Senior Center, 2424 Main Ave., Durango (pre-screening and registration required — contact sierrapeaks2021@gmail.com).
• Support Group — For Care Partners: noon on the third Tuesday of the month at Pagosa Bible Church, 209 Harman Park Drive.
