The holiday season wouldn’t feel complete without “The Nutcracker,” a story that has become a cherished Christmas tradition for families everywhere.
This December, Pagosa Springs Dance Academy (PSDA) invites the community to enjoy “The Storybook Nutcracker,” a festive production that combines live dance with a read-aloud story, making this classic tale engaging and easy to follow for audiences of all ages.
While “The Storybook Nutcracker” includes traditional classical ballet, it also incorporates a range of dance styles to help tell the story, including jazz, hip-hop, tap, musical theater, lyrical and contemporary. This blend adds a unique energy to the tradition and showcases the variety of dance styles taught at PSDA.
PSDA will present a special, shortened performance for local elementary school students on Friday morning, Dec. 19. Full-length performances for the public will be held Friday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 20, at 11 a.m. in the Pagosa Springs High School auditorium.
Families may also choose to attend a Nutcracker Pancake Breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 9:30 a.m., featuring breakfast and Nutcracker-themed games and activities for children before the 11 a.m. performance. Proceeds will support studio safety improvements, including new flooring for injury prevention.
Tickets are available in advance at www.pagosadanceacademy.com and will also be available at the door before each performance.
The community is invited to enjoy this holiday tradition and celebrate the season with a timeless story that has delighted audiences for generations.
