‘A Christmas Carol’ returning to Thingamajig, plus one-night holiday concert Dec. 17

Thingamajig Theatre Company ushers in the holiday season with “A Christmas Carol,” Patrick Barlow’s imaginative and fast-paced retelling of the beloved Dickens classic.

Directed by longtime Thingamajig favorite Andrew Barratt Lewis, this limited engagement offers a blend of warmth, wit and Victorian charm suited perfectly to the cozy magic of winter in Pagosa Springs.

Barlow’s adaptation — penned by the same mind behind “The 39 Steps” — condenses Dickens’ sprawling tale into a nimble five-actor ensemble piece, allowing the story’s ghosts, carol singers and bustling Londoners to appear and vanish with theatrical flair. While the staging is brisk and playful, Dickens’ message of compassion and transformation remains at the heart of the production.

Anchoring the cast is Dan Morrison as Ebenezer Scrooge. Known to Thingamajig audiences for his ability to portray a dozen characters before intermission, Morrison finds himself in the unusual position of playing just one — and delivers both humor and depth as Scrooge journeys from miserliness to redemption.

Making his Thingamajig debut is Logan Polson, who appears as Bob Cratchit alongside several other key roles, including Young Scrooge and Marley.

He is joined by the versatile trio of Ellie O’Hara, Samantha Luck, and Trevor Brown, each stepping into a lively range of Dickensian personalities — from Mrs. Cratchit and the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come to Fezziwig, Fanny, Tiny Tim, and many more.

In addition to its theatrical offering, Thingamajig will present a special Christmas Concert on Dec.17 at 7 p.m. at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts. The evening features performances by the winter company, along with a festive guest appearance by the Thingamawho Teen Program — the “Beetlejuice Jr.” cast.

“A Christmas Carol” runs Dec. 12-28 at the Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts. Tickets and concert information are available at www.pagosacenter.org or by calling (970) 731-SHOW (7469).
