250th Marine Corps birthday celebration planned for Nov. 10

On Monday, Nov. 10, Pagosa-area Marines are invited to gather together and celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States Marine Corps.

It was 250 years ago, and even before our nation declared an independence, that a small group of men gathered in Philadelphia’s Tun Tavern and formed a Corps of Marines.

As in recent years, Marines and their guests will celebrate at Boss Hogg’s Restaurant and Saloon, 157 Navajo Trail Drive, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Wilderness Room on the restaurant’s main floor.

The traditional cake-cutting by sword and a video birthday greeting from the Marine Corps headquarters will be featured. The oldest and youngest Marine present will be honored. In addition, the first 25 Marines attending will receive a 250th birthday commemorative gift.

Food and drink may be ordered from the menu and paid for by each attendee, with a 20 percent gratuity added. Complementary birthday cake will be served.

Other service members, especially U.S. Navy Corpsmen, are welcome. Dress is casual; however, uniforms are always welcome. Contact Ed Robinson, (970) 731-0718, with any questions.

Semper fidelis.
