During its regular meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 20, the Archuleta County Board of County Commissioners (BoCC) voted unanimously to table its decision on approving a resolution to temporarily close the public access to Country Center Drive from North Pagosa Boulevard.
On Sept. 1, the BoCC unanimously approved posting a 30-day notice of intent to close access to Country Center Drive from North Pagosa Boulevard due to its condition.
The matter was originally listed under the new business portion of the Oct. 20 meeting agenda; however, the BoCC voted to approve an amended agenda removing the item and tabling its decision for a future meeting.
Commissioner Veronica Medina motioned to amend the agenda, removing the item tabling the board’s decision until its meeting scheduled for Nov. 10.
Commissioner John Ranson explained that the county was contacted by property owner representatives of businesses in the Country Center Drive shopping center, “and they very kindly asked for an extra few weeks, so it’ll be on our next meeting.”
He noted that it will “give them some time to get organized and accomplish some things that they’re hoping to be able to do.”
County Attorney Cathleen Giovannini explained that with the BoCC tabling the matter and continuing its decision set for a later meeting date, there are no new noticing requirements the county needs to do.
The amended agenda with the item removed was unanimously approved by the BoCC.
On Sept. 1, County Manager Longinos Gonzalez explained that the suggestion of closing the access due to it being unsafe for public use had been discussed in previous BoCC meetings.
That meeting agenda notes that the county would close the access after the 30-day period, “unless the property or business owners initiate maintenance and repair efforts to address the condition of the private road.”
Commissioner Warren Brown explained at that Sept. 1 meeting that he does not want to close the access, but feels there is nothing else the county can do after years of attempting to coordinate with the property owners to have the access road repaired and properly maintained.
