On Tuesday evening, April 15th, Fred Catchpole, president of the Citizens bank and identified with the institution since it was founded in 1908, retired from the active management of the bank, his interests having been purchased by David Hersch of this city.
The officers of the bank are now David Hersch, president; Max R. Mickey, vice-president; and R.W. Smith, cashier. Mr. Hersch succeeds Mr. Catchpole, Mr. Mickey succeeds Mr. Hersch, and Mr. Smith succeeds himself.
After the heavy storm the first of the week, the thermometer dropped suddenly Wednesday night and hit the low level of ten below zero by six o’clock yesterday morning. The cold snap took with it several damaged cars, the owners neglecting to drain their radiators.
The Rose Croix Masons of Pagosa Springs with their wives held their regular annual Maundy Thursday meeting last evening. After a wonderful dinner served at the Arlington hotel, they adjourned to the Masonic hall for formal discussions of topics for the good of the community and masonry in general.

Another meeting of all those interested in the 4th of July Rodeo will be held in the courtroom at the Court House next Tuesday evening, April 19, at 8:00 p.m. The committee appointed at the last meeting will have their report to give.
A great many of the ranchers who are interested in the rodeo were unable to be present at the meeting held the first of the month due to the condition of the roads. It is expected that there will be a large attendance at the meeting and the committee stressed the fact that anyone interested in the rodeo is welcome.
Miss Patsy Clark of Dyke, was the $25 prize winner in the slogan contest being conducted by the Pagosa Springs Chamber of Commerce. The prize winning slogan, “Round-up Spot in The Rockies” was submitted by Miss Clark early in the contest and her check has been mailed to her by the Chamber of Commerce.

Mrs. Patricia Minnis has filed a civil suit against the School Board and its superintendent, A.D. Hahn. She is asking for $75,000 and alleging that her reputation was damaged by alleged statements about missing money. She also alleges that discrimination against her because of her sex resulted in her contract not being renewed.
The Town Board Tuesday night named Leonard Gallegos as Chief of the local police department. He replaces Joe Lister, who has been acting in a temporary capacity while Mr. Gallegos has been receiving training.
The new police department head attended the local schools before moving to another community while he was in high school. This has been his home most of his life and he is well known to long time residents. He has been a deputy marshal for the town in the past with about two years of experience in law enforcement.
Joe Lister served as head of the department during the past several months, resigning from the Town Board so that he could carry out the chief’s duties.

Agreement was reached Tuesday between the Upper San Juan Humane Society and the Archuleta County Commissioners allowing the Humane Society to apply for approximately 10 acres of Bureau of Land Management land in the Stevens Field area.
The agreement erased differences between the two entities regarding the actual location of the 10 acres sought by the Humane Society. Only a week ago, the county had looked at a plan for the 40 acres commissioned by Commissioner Gene Crabtree which relegated the Humane Society property to the northwestern corner of the 40 acres. Tuesday’s agreement allows the Humane Society to seek 10 acres on the northeastern corner, a location they insist is necessary for their purposes. In addition, the two agencies promised to cooperate on issues such as access to respective properties.
So far, neither the county nor the Humane Society owns any of the 40 acres. The county applied for the land two years ago and expects to emphasize that application by submitting a draft of anticipated land uses. Possible uses include parks and recreation facilities, county courthouse offices, county fair facilities, and court and jail facilities.
