Special to The PREVIEW

Local author Sara Sue Hoklotubbe will be the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the Archuleta County Genealogical Society on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 11 a.m. at the Community United Methodist Church, 427 Lewis St.

Hoklotubbe is a Cherokee tribal citizen and will speak on “How Cherokees are able to trace their ancestors through government rolls to prove tribal citizenship.” She will also discuss why discovering Native American ancestry in your DNA test doesn’t necessarily make you a tribal citizen.

Hoklotubbe is the award-winning author of the Sadie Walela mystery series set in the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma, where she grew up. She is the winner of the New Mexico/Arizona Book Award for Mystery/Suspense, the WILLA Literary Award by Women Writing the West, and the Mystery of the Year by Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers. Her latest book is “Betrayal at the Buffalo Ranch.”

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting.
