Despite gloomy weather predictions, Saturday morning’s inaugural Doggy Dash and Dawdle was held in bright sunshine.

A grand total of 16 kids, 39 adults and 57 dogs ran, jogged or walked the 3k and 5k courses.

The non-competitive, un-timed event started to the tune of “Who Let the Dogs Out,” and everyone was given doggy bags, with the biggest poop on the course winning a poop scoop.

Sanja Broda took out the lucky draw prize of a year supply of dog food and everyone wore the GECKO dog-bone finisher medals with pride, made by Tess Garcia and the local elementary school art class.

Local 2014 GECKO kids Davin Hanley and Jessey Hampton helped out on registration and on the course, paying it forward for their own outdoor scholarships later this year. Thanks to all the volunteers who made this event possible.

The next GECKO event is the Turkey Track: a 5k, 10k, 13-mile and 26-mile trail run on June 7, celebrating National Trails Day.
