FireWise of Southwest Colorado, in collaboration with Archuleta County and the Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association, is pleased to announce the start of the Archuleta County Slash Chipping Program. Residents and mitigation contractors in the county can now bring woody slash to one of two public locations free of charge. Woody slash removed from property may be brought in during scheduled hours of operation. This is for slash only, no pine needles or cones and also no wood greater than 8 inches in diameter. Loads of pine needles or cones, construction debris, pallets, etc. will not be accepted in this free program, but can still be brought to the landfill under their current guidelines.
Woody slash can be brought to:
• The Pagosa Transfer Station, located at 2146 County Road 500, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Use the northern entrance and wait for directions from the attendant.
• The Arboles Transfer Station, at 95 C.R. 975, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

PLPOA residents have another choice for woody slash. The PLPOA site is located in Trails subdivision, near the maintenance facility at 360 Sam Houston Blvd. FireWise will grind this slash into chips that are available for residential use.
