The San Juan National Forest issued the following report Friday.

The Mill Creek 2 Fire 10 miles northeast of Pagosa Springs is showing increased activity today. It is 4.5 acres in size. The fire is located about 5 miles east of U.S. 160 in steep, remote national forest terrain.

The fire is burning on a ridge of mixed conifer including dead and down trees. Fire managers implemented water drops from a helicopter yesterday, and aerial resources will be available today.

Due to the remote, hazardous terrain, firefighters have not been sent in to engage the fire. There are no homes, infrastructure or other values being threatened. No cause has been determined. An engine and crew are working in the area to keep an eye on fire activity and assess fire suppression options.
