CSU Extension welcomes fair manager

Posted

Tonya Steadmon is joining the staff at the Colorado State University (CSU) Extension office as the county fair coordinator and support staff.

Steadmon is no stranger to this position as she has served as the Archuleta County Fair coordinator in 2020 and served as president and board member for the last three years. She brings a wealth of knowledge to the position.

Steadmon grew up in southern New Mexico and moved to Pagosa in 1996. She raised two daughters and worked a variety of jobs including ranch management, home care taking and owned her own business for more than 20 years. She has always loved the community and the way people help each other out.

“The pioneers of this town did a good job of welcoming outsiders to become a part of the community,” she said.

In her first year as the county fair coordinator and Extension support staff, Steadmon wants to help the fair grow, encourage more people to volunteer for the fair, be involved with CSU Extension programs and support 4-H. She wants to bring people back to their roots through the traditions of the county fair and Extension.

Steadmon encourages anyone to enter their goods in the fair.

“The county fair needs volunteers and people to enter the exhibits. Come out and support all the folks involved in the county fair including, 4-H’ers, vendors, educational exhibitors all while enjoying the many things to see and do at the fair,” she said.

There are open classes in many areas. If you have a specific talent that you would like to showcase at the county fair, please bring your goods and sign up on the Tuesday before the fair. Steadmon encourages everyone to come out and have a good time.

Steadmon also supports the fairgrounds with other events and celebrations.

“Last year at the grand opening of the Hughes Pavilion, we showcased the things that are in the works for the entire grounds,” she said. “I want to encourage the public to support and be patient while the grounds are being completed and running smoothly. I’m excited for the many opportunities that this will bring to the fairgrounds and whole community”.

Pagosa is home for Steadmon, and she is excited to work and help grow the fair and be a part of the CSU Extension team. The county fair and Extension will benefit from Steadmon’s passion and enthusiasm for the work that lay ahead.
