Annual Big Spring Clean set for May 3 and 4

On Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4, the Town of Pagosa Springs and Archuleta County will be hosting the annual Big Spring Clean event, with the entities providing the following details for the event.

The town and county will be providing multiple free disposal locations during the next two days for residents.

The free dump locations will be at:

• Town Shop, 703 S. 5th St.

• Pagosa Lakes Property Owners Association Clubhouse, 230 Port Ave.

• Aspen Springs Ute Park, 981 Ute Drive.

Roll-off dumpsters at each location will accept general debris from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. No household trash, tires, vehicles, batteries, mattresses or hazardous material will be accepted at those locations. Please bring proof of residency.

The county transfer station, located at 2140 County Road 500, will be accepting specialty items such as recycling, electronics ($5 fee) and appliances (freon must be removed).

The county landfill, located at 9179 County Road 500, will be accepting furniture and clean-up debris. Any commercial construction debris will incur costs. Proof of residency is required.

May 4 will be the community day, with volunteer clean-up projects going on from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Participants will then meet at Yamaguchi Park at 9 a.m. for bags, pickers, vests and assignments, if needed. 

There will be a community barbecue and ice cream contest (in honor of Larry Fisher) from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Yamaguchi Park.

There will also be live music.
