The week of July 14 was a busy one. Residents and mitigation contractors have been bringing woody material (slash) to the three designated Slash Depots in Archuleta County since April. The piles finally grew to the point that it was time to bring in a large, 160 horsepower horizontal grinder to transform potential wildfire fuel into mulch and organic matter for gardening. Mulch is available for $10 per cubic yard at the Transfer Station on Trujillo Road.
Loads of woody material less than 8 inches in diameter are accepted at both the Arboles (Friday and Saturday) and Pagosa (Tuesday through Saturday) transfer stations from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. No trash or construction materials can be accepted as part of this free service.
Pagosa Lakes residents can still use the site on Sam Houston Avenue for slash and to obtain mulch.
