Special to The PREVIEW

The first of five multipurpose pavilion fund-raising food contests was held last week and was a great success.

The Friends of Pagosa Multi-Purpose Pavilion gathered to taste delicious desserts to be included in the first section of a “Taste of Pagosa” cookbook.  Pink and Black made happy for the holidays with the Rollergirls in Pagosa brightening up the fun in their uniforms.

As everyone tasted delights, judges sampled and pondered over their sweets to select the best desserts.  Judges included Kellie from the Alley House, Kathy from the Pagosa Baking Company, Desiree from Two Chicks and a Hippie, and Dana from The View. Celebrity judge Bob Kudelski awarded the honors and announced the winners.

Two recipes were awarded  ”Great Job” medals: Pam Hotchkiss’ Pecan Chocolate Tart and Margie Richter’s Chocolate Mousse Pie.   The third place Bronze Medal went to Tari Woods’ Texas Fruitcake Cookies.  A second place Silver Medal went to Marsha Kerns’ Nutella Pie.  The winning Gold Medal went to Melissa Shelton and her Aztec Chocolate Pudding.  These three medal winners will advance to the June Extravaganza Fund-raiser when an evening buffet will be held for all the medal winners from each section of the cookbook.

A silent auction was enjoyed by all and everyone was very happy with their finds.

A special thanks goes to CK Patel of the Quality Resort for helping the Friends of the Pagosa Pavilion make this first fund-raiser a success.

The Pavilion is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The next fund-raiser will take place at The View Restaurant 6-8 p.m. on Jan. 17 with a Happy  New Year Cocktail Tasting.   This contest will be for the “Appetizers and Beverages” section of the cookbook.   Tickets for the event are $20 and will be available at the door.

If you want to enter the contest call Tari Woods, 731-8877, or Kristal Fortune, 264-3346, for more information.
