Brooks LinderThe Archuleta School District Board of Education has two openings this year, with both seats being contested before voters; incumbent Tim Taylor will face challenger Brooks Lindner to represent District 1, while newcomers Bruce Dryburgh and Dwight Hooton are both seeking the seat being vacated by board chairperson Linda Lattin, whose term limit as the director for District 5 has expired.
According to Archuleta County Clerk and Recorder June Madrid, the election is scheduled for Nov. 5. However, all elections are now mail ballot elections, so all active voters will receive a ballot in the mail shortly after Oct. 15.
Tim TaylorFor those who have not registered to vote, do not receive their ballot, or accidently ruin their ballot, the law now allows early voting, which will begin eight days prior to the election on Oct. 28. Early ballots may be cast from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the election’s office, which will be the only voter service polling center. All ballots, whether mailed in or completed in person, must be in by 7 p.m. on Election Day; postmarks do not count.

This week’s article features the responses from Taylor and Lindner, who are running for District 1. Next week, Dryburgh and Hooton will be featured, and a three-part series will culminate the following week with an examination of the third issue on the ballot: proposed Amendment 66, which would change the way schools are financed in Colorado.
