Wolf Creek Ski Area became the first ski area in North America to open for the 2024-2025 season Tuesday.

The day also opened the ski area’s 85th season, which it indicates will be celebrated throughout the season.

The ski area opened following a storm system that delivered 26 inches of snow and left a midway depth of 16 inches.

OnTheSnow.com indicated Tuesday that Wolf Creek is the first ski area to open in North America.

As of Wednesday, Wolf Creek reported a midway depth of 17 inches.

“Wolf Creek’s current snow depth is 17 inches at the midway,” the ski area’s website states. “Conditions are spring-like and variable off-piste with early season conditions and unmarked obstacles. There will be limited grooming throughout the mountain. The year-to-date snowfall is 26 inches. ... As usual, with more snow and winter conditions, more terrain and lifts will open.”

According to the ski area, the Bonanza, Treasure and Nova lifts will be operating from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. beginning Oct. 22, giving access to roughly 40 percent of the mountain. The Magic Carpet will be open for the Wolf Pup and Wolf Rider programs.
