William Marshall “Bill” Downey, of Pagosa Springs, Colo., went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024. Bill was born July 2, 1943, to Marshall and Bessie Downey. He married his lovely bride, Jane, on Christmas Eve 1967. They raised two daughters, Stacie Barks (Tim) and Sara Kirkham (Robert) and have four grandchildren: Keagan Kirkham, MacKensie Kirkham, Harris Kirkham and Hank Barks.
Bill joined the Colorado State Patrol in July of 1972 and was stationed in Pagosa Springs, where he served his entire career, retiring in 1998. He actively served his community, being among the first class of EMTs, he was a charter member of the hospital board and county commissioner. He loved taking pack trips in the high country, cowboy poetry, genealogy, politics, thought-provoking conversations and his family. He will be greatly missed.
His service will be held Saturday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Pagosa Springs.
