Dear Editor:
The November ballot will include local tax initiative #2A, asking voters to approve a 1% sales tax which will support the repair and replacement of our failing wastewater systems including the lift stations that transport waste to the main facility located in PLPOA.
Maintaining and upgrading community infrastructure is essential for the safety and functionality of aging assets. Communities all over the country are dealing with maintenance projects – Pagosa’s Highway 160 CDOT project is another example.
There are no easy solutions for the financial support that these projects require. A sales tax increase is a good way to diversify who contributes.
We need an immediate solution for the repairs needed and comprehensive solutions for the future so we can count on reliable and modern infrastructure to sustain this community for the long term. Please vote YES on 2A.
